Book Review: The Reunion

Not only did I get to read this great book, the Reunion by Dan Walsh, but my oldest boy picked up the book as soon as I put it down.  We both LOVED it!!

Reunion, The: A Novel

This book is a present day story about a man, Aaron Miller who lives and works at a trailer park.  This is a man who is very unassuming and has a heart to serve others.   I loved this man from the beginning, the way he stops what he is doing to meet the needs of others.  I loved seeing Aaron really live his faith with all those people around him, and seeing God use him in mighty ways.

Who Aaron is a mystery to all who know him, and there is clearly a shattered relationship in his past, but he offers little to explain.

Book Review : What a Difference a Mom Makes

First, I must confess I am a Kevin Leman fan.  I enjoy his books.  I have not read every one, but nearly all, and often tell people information I learned in his Birth Order book.

What a Difference a Mom Makes: The Indelible Imprint a Mom Leaves on Her Son's Life

What a Difference a Mom Makes was another great book by Kevin Leman.  However, I will admit, much of his message was new to me.  I was under the impression that the Dad was the most important parent.  This book would tell a mom, of boys in particular, that she is really vitally important.

This book is geared to a mom of any stage, expecting a baby boy, to raising a teenager.  I am about in the middle, leaning a bit to the teenager.  I appreciated several chapters in this book, but right now the one that was really key to where we are with our oldest boy was Guess What His Favorite Body Part Is?  This was really a great chapter to explain many things to a clueless mom!

I also really appreciated how much time he spent talking about the kind of woman our boys will choose to marry – one much like us.  It made me think about what kind of role I am modeling to my boys right now – what kind of woman will they choose because of my influence?

Book Review : The Judge

I thoroughly enjoyed my latest read by Randy Singer : The Judge! (Previously released as The Cross Examination of Oliver Finney)

What a great book.  I have loved every book by Randy Singer.

The Judge

What did I love about this particular one?  Well, I loved the reality tv show story.  I have watched a few seasons of Survivor and a few other reality tv shows (not my proudest seasons) and there are always interesting things going on.  But to base a show on the subject of Faith would be great!

Solitude (almost)

house

So this is our first time to hang out in Maine, just me and the kids.  In the past the house was full, and there was never a dull moment!

island view

This year we are tickled to be able to enjoy some time in Maine, just us.  While the house is not brimming with people, there is still never a dull moment.  That being said, we are enjoying many slow days, lots of playing here at the house and not the run-around pace we usually keep when in Maine!

It has been such a blessing for me to watch my kids play with each other.  There is still some squabbling, but with all there is to do here there is really little reason to squabble.  If you want to run around in the woods, there is about 13-16 acres to do that, and no fences,  and maybe a few acres from the neighbors too.  If you want to play in the rocks, there are endless rocks to climb, explore and enjoy.  And if the water is more your thing, the ocean abounds on the edge of the property.  Really, it does not get much better than this.
