In my life this week...
We had our typical week : unpredictable; in the sense that with Robert home some days, we get thrown off schedule. But I am starting to think there may not be a schedule to be thrown off. You know? Like how many times do you need to be off schedule before you consider that the schedule is to be off?
Anyway, we got some school done – we played – and we worked!
In our homeschool this week...
We are wrapping this year up quickly. We have worked ahead on a few books so we are breezing through these last few weeks before we wrap up for the year.
We are looking ahead – Year 4 (Ambleside) for the big boys and Year 1 for the younger two. Cannot wait for the great books we are going to read!!
One that I am thrilled about is Courageous Christians by Joyce Vollmer Brown – I even made notebooking pages to go along with the readings in this book! I cannot wait to start it!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...
We did make it out to play with friends this week! The kids loved playing and getting out of our house! There were lots of fun things to play with – motorized cars, water guns, even a playground!
Last night (Thursday) we headed up to church to listen to the Singing Men of East Texas – they were so good! The kids were tired, but they enjoyed it none the less. It was pretty cool to see about 55 men singing about God and His blessings!
My favorite thing this week was...
My oldest won a Bible on the Coconut Hut Radio show on Saturday – we were both pretty thrilled!! Even more excited when it arrived – he has had his nose in it since he opened the package!!
What's working/not working for us...
Figuring out that a schedule is a suggestion and not a rule. I like being able to take the days one at a time and play when Robert is home. We still get some school done most days, but you cannot replace that time these boys get from just being with Dad while he works around this place – real life learning! Invaluable!
My favorite thing around here is getting a few minutes with Robert to sit by the pond and feed the fish at night – most of the time the kids are in bed, or getting into bed – so it is a few minutes of quiet, peaceful time. I love to sit out there and be amazed by all God has blessed us with here in Malakoff. I love to watch all those fish come up and eat – it is so relaxing!! One of my favorite things right now!
A photo, video, link, or quote to share...
Our newest favorite game!! Wanted to share (again) we love this – even Robert and I have enjoyed it!!
COLORKU from Mindware – ages 8 and up, but my 7 year old is great at it!!
I like "a schedule is a suggestion, not a rule." It took me about 3 years of homeschooling to figure that out and that I would never be able to follow strict schedule. I had to settle for having a "routine" instead. Being flexible and schooling year round saved my sanity!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a nice, enjoyable week :) Stopping by from HSMJ.

Like the commentor Mary I had to realize our family does a routine much better than a strict schedule. And that's okay. My very best friend has a super-full, super-strict schedule that works great for her family. But it would never work for mine.
ReplyDeleteI'm the crazy chick that has to have the schedule or I cant focus..haha The game looks fun I'll have to check it out =)
ReplyDeleteMy girls have a morning routine for getting ready for the day and an evening routine for getting ready for bed. We eat lunch in the 11 o'clock hour usually. Other than that, we don't have much of a schedule. Every time I try, the girls have other ideas!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! We will have to check that game out.

Nice to "meet" another Ambleside family here on HMJ! I am much more of a "routine" person, but I'm forced by circumstances to follow a very strict schedule. We each need to forge our own paths, right?!
ReplyDeleteMany blessings this new week!
