I recently was blessed to read Elizabeth Ludwig’s book NO Safe Harbor.  This book is the first is a new series titled Edge of Freedom.

While I simply enjoy reading, I really enjoy when there is an added plus that a story can offer, I loved that this story took place in the 1890’s.  The picture that Ms. Ludwig painted of New York during this period was very interesting and made me feel like I could imagine it in my mind just as she described it.

This story is about a woman who has come across the sea from England/ Ireland.  She must make her way in this country as she tries to find her twin brother whom she believed dead for years.  She knows she has to keep his existence a secret, or she could be in danger, but that is really all she knows.

Meanwhile, the people behind her brother going in to hiding find her and are hoping to catch him through her.  There is a great story going on in the background while England and Ireland are waging a bit of a war themselves and seeing just how that affected the immigrants on this side of the ocean.

I enjoyed this story, it is a good read and one that offers good strong characters that pull you in, along with many twists and turns along the way.  There are many questions that need to be answered about Cara and her brother Eoghan, not to mention the other men who are after them both.  I enjoyed the suspense and the twists and turns!

My favorite character was Rourke, he is one of the men trying to find Cara’s brother, and who finds her just as she is leaving Ellis Island.  While he seems to be a “bad guy” he is clearly taken with Cara and eventually falls for her completely.  The question he is faced with is whether he will follow his heart or his head?  I

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light fiction read that will offer some historical insight into the late 1890’s.  To read what others are saying about this book check out this LINK.

Lured by a handful of scribbled words across a faded letter, Cara Hamilton sets off from 1896 Ireland on a quest to find the brother she'd thought dead. Her search lands her in America, amidst a houseful of strangers and one man who claims to be a friend - Rourke Walsh.

Despite her brother's warning, Cara decides to trust Rourke and reveals the truth about her purpose in America. But he is not who he claims to be, and as rumors begin to circulate about an underground group of dangerous revolutionaries, Cara's desperation grows. 1. I love historical fiction that is well written and brings another time period to life. A mystery keeps the plot ongoing and romance is always fun. Plus the author is from Texas:)
