Book Review : Children of Angels

I always welcome the chance to read a book that I can recommend to my boys, as they are reading more books, even faster than me, and keeping them stocked is a challenge!!

Click to Order Children of Angels

Again, this book was not what I expected. When I started the story I was sad to conclude that my boys would not be reading it. The first chapter contained some bullying that I was not sure I wanted me boys reading about. I did not love the way the main character spoke either.  So (again, honestly), I set this book aside and got caught up in another.  After finishing the other, I picked this one up, because like it or not I have to review it.

And lo and behold, I LOVED this book! Who knew? And this is why I keep telling my boys they need to finish a book when I ask them to read it, even if they do not love it. (Usually they do enjoy it before finishing it)

Okay, so what did I enjoy? I loved the Biblical aspect from this story, the reference in Genesis about the Angels procreating with humans and the resulting offspring. There was nothing in this book that went against our Biblical philosophy at all.  (Do I think this could be true, of course not, but nothing contradicted what I do believe to be true)

Maine Mushrooms

While we were walking the other day through the Maine woods we noticed all the different mushrooms. I decided I needed to start taking some pics of all the varieties. These were all taken on one walk! It is fun to see all the different kinds there are here!

Beautiful Scenes

While up here I have fallen in love all over again.  It has been 2 years since we trekked up to Maine.  So I forget just how beautiful this place is.  Here are a few pics to remind me as we head back to Texas….

Book Review : Constantly Craving

If you have not made it to a Women of Faith Conference you are missing out on some amazingly talented ladies!  One of those ladies is Marilyn Meberg!  She is a hoot!  She is so full of energy, humor, and compassion!!

Constantly Craving: How to Make Sense of Always Wanting More

I recently read her book Constantly Craving.  I really enjoyed reading this book about why we are always wanting more.

Have you noticed that?  You always want more.  You get the thing you want, and you want more.  You have a great husband, and you want him to be “better” in that one area….  You have great kids, if only they would be more ________ (fill in the blank).

This is true in almost every aspect of our life.  Why is this?  Well Marilyn tackles this subject head on by addressing it specifically in romance, our marriages, happiness, friendship and more.

One point she makes is that it is important for us to understand why we are craving more, making choices to seek more, in order to really get a grasp of this.  We are inherently seeking people, we are born that way, if you think about it.  We can control those choices by making better choices and offering agape love to those who are not making better choices.

I really loved the chapter on friendship – I love being reminded that God created us for relationship with him, and with others.  We crave relationships, but sometimes we stuff that desire because of past hurts.  She challenges the reader to seek out opportunities to make room for new friends, for someone who needs a friend.    We’ve all been hurt before, and we need to approach new relationships with the understanding that that person has been hurt too and may not respond immediately.  I have found this to be true in my life, I have had to nearly chase down a new friend at times, but it has been a blessing over and over for me when they finally decide to accept my offer of friendship! (Right Jennifer and Renee?)

Anyway, I really enjoyed this book.  Marilyn makes you really think about what you are craving and why, this helps to restructure your thinking to possibly make other choices in the future!

I loved reading the stories that Marilyn shares throughout the book, she is quite an entertaining writer and I think anyone would enjoy this book as well.

NOTE : I was offered a copy of Constantly Craving by Thomas Nelson Publishers, in exchange for an honest review.

Eagles {check}

What a thrill to see Eagles.  In. Real. Life.

I have never seen an eagle except for the zoo, but I have heard plenty about them from Betsy (Robert’s mom) and I was dying to see one!  I was so hoping that this would be the year!!

And it was!

I saw them the other night, but tonight I asked Robert to take me out on the boat (with my camera) to see if we can catch some pics!  So here is what I got….

We finally made it to Owl’s Head with Robert to play in the low tide!

We always enjoy our time at Owl’s Head.  We love to wander on the rocks and find all sorts of animals living in the tide pools and under the rocks!
