Book Review : Placebo

If you did not read my review of Steven James book The Queen – you should click right over there and read it!  It should give you a bit of a heads up on why I jumped at the chance to review another book by Steven James : Placebo: A Jevin Banks Novel (The Jevin Banks Experience)

I love, love, love Steven James (up there with Dekker in my mind)!!  And while this book is completely different from the Patrick Bowers series of The Rook, The Knight, and The Queen, I still loved it!  I kind of thought this would be like those other ones though.  Just different.  But I was wrong!

Placebo: A Jevin Banks Novel (The Jevin Banks Experience) is the first in the Jevin Banks Experience series.  I loved the characters, I loved the story, I loved that you had to use a bit of your brain to get it and understand it.  I like books that make me think, just a bit!  This was one of those.

Jevin Banks is the main character of this book, he is a man who was once a magician, but after the tragic death of his wife and sons, he decided to change his profession.  He now follow up on something he thinks is a hoax, goes “undercover” to investigate and then produces a show revealing the information he gathered.

This time, Jevin goes undercover and learns that what he is investigating may not be a hoax at all, but something much darker, mysterious and dangerous!  His partner in crime is a woman he has been working along side for year, and during this operation, both become aware of their feelings for each other.

This story is by no means a romance, however there are a few romantic elements.  This is a thriller, adventure packed, edge of your seat tale that will leave you want more!  As I finished the last page, I knew I was as captivated by this group of characters and their plight as I was in the Patrick Bowers series before.

I love to read Steven James’ writing, he is a very intelligent writer, who weaves twists and turns you will never anticipate.  I love the characters he introduces, people with real issues, but not tragic.  You can easily identify with who they are, what they are grappling with in life, and the choices they are about to make.

I HIGHLY recommend this book : Placebo: A Jevin Banks Novel (The Jevin Banks Experience) , or ANY book by Steven James!
