behind the clouds

It is morning here – came too early  - 5:00 am wake-up to the wind blowing the blinds.  So when 7am rolled around I wanted to pull the covers up over my head and hide.  But, with 4 little ones, and lots of animals to feed, I finally made it up.

Now, after breakfast, sitting, reading The Word – listening to birds sing right out side, and 2 little ones playing quietly with legos down the hall, I am grateful for a beautiful morning of bird songs, sunshine, and happy kids!

Thought I would share a poem we read this week by Henry Longfellow.  Some of his poems are a bit longer & wordier than we are used to, but we are enjoying getting to know his writing!  This is our favorite so far – we are a bit partial since it was penned in Maine, but that is okay!

Hope you enjoy it!

 The Rainy Day
Written at the old home in Portland

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains,and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains,and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

I love the last stanza – there is hope in all the dreariness of life, all the hard stuff, there are better days coming!  Too often we get bogged down with today, we cannot see the sun around the corner, but it is there.  God’s blessings are right around the corner no matter what!  In fact, they are in front of you if you look!  That is what I have found these past many months of counting…..

0735 – listening to the music of birds while having my quiet time

0736 – a great week behind us – friends, school, time as a family

and still I count……

And now, off to get some schooling done, so we can finish our year in a timely manner!!  Happy Friday to you!
