Hands down, one of the best books I have read this year, and I have read a bunch!
I love how Suzanne Woods Fisher writes this book, the chapters are easy and quick to read. I enjoyed taking my time with this book so that I could process each chapter and the information it offered. She takes one idea, that the Amish do well, and writes a story, a description, or an explanation in about 2-3 pages. These chapters are designed to be easy apply in your own families.
While this book will not convince you to give up your automobiles for a horse drawn buggies, you realize that the Amish do so many things well and their family dynamics leave many of us longing for more. In our current culture of children (and parents) always wanting more, there is a peaceful wonder surrounding the contentment of the Amish.
This is a perfect book to store next to your bed where you can read a quick chapter before bed or even in the bathroom, where you can find a few minutes alone to polish off a chapter. Once you read a few chapters and see into their simple and charming lifestyle you will be hooked!
Suzanne loves the Amish and her feelings are evident in each story she shares. I would eagerly pick up any of her other books about the Amish, after reading this one! She has seen many great ideas, that she brings through this book, which we can apply into our homes.
Every time I finish a chapter I am smiling and plotting, how I can bring a bit of that life into our home. I highly recommend this easy to read book, to anyone wanting to grasp a tiny piece of a simplified life!
