Untamed: How the Wild Side of Jesus Frees Us to Live and Love with Abandon |
I like to read. I enjoy fiction, spiritual, thriller – honestly there are few categories I do not like. I especially like when a book meets me where I am, and gives me something to chew on. Ms. Harper has done both.
“..the more I contemplate His passionate quest for my own heart – the way He winks at me through brilliant sunrises, provides enough money to pay the bills, and the way he serenades me with crickets at night – the more I’m compelled to run after Him …” p.83
Lisa Harper’s book Untamed is a devotion or book club style book with a study guide throughout. She takes 12 chapters to lead you through her explanation of how our Jesus is not a meek, mild “pretty” gentleman. She demonstrates that he is wild and Untamed! She uses Jesus’ own words to show that he is wild in how he redeems us, how he is devoted to us, and how he is confident and confrontational. You have read these passages, they are not new or hidden, but Ms. Harper lays them out in a direct manner linking each passage to qualities that make us want to draw closer and deeper into a relationship with our WILD savior.
I loved how Ms. Harper uses humor throughout her book, especially when she shows how these people could look today, how in our culture their qualities would still be evident. She shares a few challenges she has personally faced and how her dependence on a “weak minded Jesus” left her wanting more. This led to her digging deeper into the Word and into who Jesus really was to find a man she could completely trust and rely on.
She leads you to a place of freedom as you trek through her definitions of who Jesus is to YOU.
I enjoyed this book. Ms. Harper writes a very readable book with some very deep points that will leave you thinking long after you put the book down. This would be a great book club book to share with a group.
I received this book free from the publisher (Waterbrook Press) in exchange for an honest review. I received no other compensation.
